Educational Records The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”) provides certain rights to parents and eligible students (18 years of age or older) with respect to the student’s education records.
A. Inspection of Records Parents/eligible students may inspect and review the student’s education records within 45 days of making a request. Such requests must be submitted to the Superintendent or building administrator in writing and must identify the record(s) to be inspected. The Superintendent or building administrator will notify the parent/eligible student of the time and place where the record(s) may be inspected. Parents/eligible students may obtain copies of education records at a cost of 25 cents per page.
B. Amendment of Records Parents/eligible students may ask M.S.A.D. #70 to amend education records they believe are inaccurate, misleading or in violation of the student’s right to privacy. Such requests must be submitted to the Superintendent or building administrator in writing, clearly identify the part of the record they want changed, and specify why it is inaccurate or misleading. If the Superintendent or building administrator decides not to amend the record as requested, the parent/eligible student will be notified of the decision, their right to request a hearing, and information about the hearing procedure.
C. Disclosure of Records M.S.A.D. #70 must obtain a parent/eligible student’s written consent prior to Disclosure of personally identifiable information in education records except in circumstances as permitted by law.
1. Directory Information M.S.A.D. #70 designates the following student information as directory information that may be made public at its discretion: name, participation and grade level of students in officially recognized activities and sports, height and weight of student athletes, dates of attendance in the school unit, honors and awards received, Parents/eligible students who do not want M.S.A.D. #70 to disclose directory information must notify the Superintendent in writing by September

Military Recruiters/Institutions of Higher Education Military recruiters and institutions of higher education are entitled to receive the names, addresses and telephone numbers of secondary students and M.S.A.D. #70 must comply with any such request, provided that parents have been notified of their right to request that this information not be released without their prior written consent.
Title IA News For Students in Kindergarten Through Grade Eight Each year the school is given federal money to assist students academically that need a little “boost” in language arts or mathematics. This is not special education, but services are offered to students who may be struggling temporarily or permanently. Title I services do not replace classroom instruction, but support classroom instruction. The program provides students with additional practice in the deficient areas. Teachers give us a list of students they feel may need additional support at the beginning of the school year. A student may receive academic support for a short period of time, but some students may be more successful with academic support for the entire school year. Part of the recommendation of students is based on their fall NWEA scores, which will be discussed with you at November parent / teacher conferences. Any parent who has a child(ren) falling below the 50th percentile on the NWEA test is sent this letter and attention will be given to that particular student(s). We also review a student’s NECAP scores (where applicable) to see if they need academic support. A parent may also request a child receive support in language arts and/or mathematics if he or she wishes. If you feel your child is in need of assistance, please call your child’s teacher and discuss your concerns with him or her. The teacher will then pass on the student’s name to the Title I staff member.
Teacher / Staff Qualifications You as a parent and/or community member have the right to request the qualifications of any staff member employed in MSAD #70. We would ask that you call us in advance to set up a time when you can come in and review these qualifications with a district administrator.
Homeless Liaison Our district’s homeless liaison, Matthew Oliver, may be reached by phone @ 532-9228 or in person at Mill Pond School in Hodgdon. Matthew is responsible for following the guidelines set forth in the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act. If you or your family lives in any of the following situations: in a shelter, motel, vehicle, or campground; on the street; in an abandoned building, trailer, or other inadequate accommodations; or are doubled up with friends or relatives because you cannot find housing. You may qualify to receive various services under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act. Please contact to Matthew Oliver to see if you qualify for services provided under this Act.
